A comfortable living room is the center piece of your home. It’s important to make sure you have a space that you’re happy with and actually want to spend time. Whether you’ll be hosting parties with friends or just relaxing and watching movies at home, you want to make sure you have a comfortable space where you can relax and enjoy. We’re going to go over a few simple tips here that will help you turn your living room into the living room of your dreams.

  1. Plan your space

One common mistake (especially if this is your first living room design) is to not spend enough time to planning how you want your space to look. However, planning is the absolute key to success when it comes to home design! Think about what you’ll mainly be using the space. Will you be having friends over a lot? Do you spend time at home? Will you be spending time on the couch? These are all important to consider when planning your space. If you’re going to have people over often, then you may want a more open space so you will have room to entertain. If you’re going to spend a lot of time watching movies on your couch, then it’s important to have a comfortable couch that you’ll enjoy. Think about what features make the most sense for you and plan accordingly.

2. Perfect couch

The couch is the star of the living room, so it stands to reason that the perfect living room begins and ends with the perfect couch. Don’t let yourself get attached to a specific old sofa if it won’t work with your new dream design! Spend some time looking at different options for couches so you can have a good idea of what is available. Consider a few things: What color will match with your design? How much couch space do you need? Which option will be the most comfortable for you? Do you need a couch big enough for friends to sleep on? These are all important things to consider before you make your decision on which couch to buy. Above all, make sure you’ll be happy with your choice! Pick something comfortable so you’ll be able to enjoy spending some time watching movies at home. Sectional vs Individual pieces. Formal or Comfy.

3. Artwork

Artwork is one of the most overlooked aspects of an amazing room design. It’s something so simple yet so profound, it can make a huge impact to how your design looks. Get a feel for the mood of your room and go with a design that will match well with that. Simple yet effective artwork can bring out the best in a room and make the design pop out even more. Spend some serious time browsing through options until you find one that feels right for you, something that you’ll enjoy looking at every day. I personally prefer something interesting & appealing that I can spend a long time looking at and appreciating the design. Make sure it goes with the design flow of the rest of the room and compliments that. You don’t want an artwork that is so out of place that it draws all the positive attention away from the rest of the room.

4. Comfort

Comfort is incredibly important to your living room’s design. Or is it? Which resonates more with you, comfort or style? While you, of course, will want everything to look aesthetically pleasing, this will all be for nothing if the room itself isn’t enjoyable to spend time! Blend comfort and style. To maximize comfort, be sure to pick colors, textures, and materials that you find cozy, relaxing, and in keeping with your own identity and sense of style. Your dream living room doesn’t only look nice, it should feel nice too! When designing the space and picking features, make sure to picture yourself in the space and spend some serious time considering if you’ll enjoy spending time there. You want to be able to be truly at peace when you’re sitting on your couch and watching your favorite show in the future!

5. Coffee table

Accent tables need not be boring! Consider not only the size and style but also material. Which is more appealing, glass or wood? Or maybe something else? Consider your purpose of the space when picking out a perfect table for you. If you’ll have friends over often, you probably want to consider a larger table to your friends will have a place to sit their drinks. If you’ll be the main one spending time there, focus on practicality, something that will be comfortable for you to use. Maybe you will be working from home more lately so you want a space to put your laptop. These are all important things to consider. Browse through plenty of options so you can find one that fits perfectly with your planned design and make sure it’s something you’ll enjoy seeing all the time!
